Switching to DirecTV is often the one choice that new subscribers are happy about making. When you sign up for this satellite TV service, there are six programming packages for you to choose from: the DirecTV Premier, DirecTV Ultimate, DirecTV XTRA, DirecTV Choice, DirecTV Entertainment, and DirecTV Select package. These bring 315, 240, 220, 175, 150, and 145 premium channels respectively, to millions of homes across the country.
Comparing the service with the competition would so make you realize why so many people switch to DirecTV in a given day, and they do. The company, acquired by telecom giant AT&T last year, offers the most advanced technology among TV services. It also has a lineup comprising more HD channels and exclusive content most cable providers.
Incidentally, it is #1 in customer satisfaction too. The best part right now? You can get a FREE Genie upgrade as well as up to three FREE Genie Mini upgrades for signing up for any package.
Lowest Priced Plan
The DirecTV Select package is a fairly new addition to the sat-TV provider’s lineup, and is their lowest priced plan available. With 145 channels, it brings a broad range of general-interest channels as well as those in specific categories.
Launched in 2014, DirecTV Select package is the company’s answer top rival Dish Network’s low-price plans, and at $19.99 per month, it holds its own admirably. The only thing it lacks is some of the high-interest channels in the upper plans.
Think of it this way: it is the Entertainment package minus 5 channels, these five being very influential in the sports and Spanish markets. Here is what it doesn’t have that DirecTV Entertainment pack does: ESPN2, FS1, ONCE Mexico or SONICTAP Music (Full Metal Jacket).
Stripping it of the ESPN suite and ONCE Mexico does not affect most people, especially if they are interested in rock-bottom prices. DirecTV Select package also lacks Fox Sports 1 (FS1), which has an expansive list of national games/matches.
But on the plus side, it brings more than 145 premium channels featuring high-demand movie, sports, news and entertainment programming. You wouldn’t believe how many of those were on add-on packages a few years back.
If the 5 channel gap from DirecTV Entertainment package doesn’t bother you that much, then the DirecTV Select package is a hard plan to beat. Just make sure to get it when the FREE Genie upgrade offer still stands.
