Dish Network is introducing the HD version of Spanish language ESPN Deportes with their DishLATINO package. ESPN Deportes was already part of the Dish Network channel guide list, although only in Standard Definition. It recently grabbed Spanish-language rights in an agreement with CBS and NFL.
ESPN Deportes says it has a US reach of 6.1 million Hispanic homes although total distribution is estimated at around 20 million. The latest announcement was made by Sean Breen, Senior Vice President, Affiliate Sales, Disney & ESPN Media Networks, who claimed that offering the HD experience to DishLATINO customers, is in response to the demand for HD sports in Spanish, into a Hispanic fan base. “Watching live sporting events in HD heightens and enhances the viewing experience for fans, and today’s launch is yet another example of how we are working closely with our distributors to add value to their customers’ pay TV subscriptions,” Breen said.
As a way to enhancing customer experience, Dish bringing in ESPN Deportes in HD can liven up some of the best events in sports. DishLATINO Vice President, Alfredo Rodriguez, said the Super Bowl is “the perfect way to kick-off this programming, delivering Spanish-language, HD coverage of American football’s biggest night.”
Vice President of Programming & Business Initiatives at ESPN Deportes, Freddy Rolón, says the move plays a huge role in delivering quality sports content to Spanish-language fans. The expansion in distribution will let viewers watch their favorite sports in the best quality available.
ESPN Deportes is preparing to deliver “a wide variety of great sports events this year including the anticipated Super Bowl 50, Seriedel Caribe, Copa MX, Copa del Rey final, German Cup, Europa League, UEFA Champions League, NBA and The Finals, Wimbledon, EURO 2016, the Spanish Super Copa, the U.S. Open and much more,” Rolón said.
