Dish is leaving a few stones unturned in its bid to regain the market. Although a less brow-raising proposition than its $250 bonus offering for switching providers, the company’s impending long-term contract with Willow TV International is already making waves. Sources say the deal will give the provider coverage rights over cricket in the US. At this time, Dish is mainly focused on the rights to air the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 events.
Willow TV is currently the only channel in the country with the rights to telecast ICC events, besides being the official broadcast partner for the ICC in the US. The first event to be aired after the agreement gets signed, would be the first ICC World Twenty20 match, scheduled on March 8. Subscribers to Sling TV or Dish, who already have Willow TV in their package channel lineup, can watch all the events without any extra charge. They should also get Live notifications and game stats from the TV service.
Willow TV HD
There had been rumors about a full HD version of Willow TV before Dish Network and Sling confirmed it. Both services will be providing an HD Live version of the ICC official partner. Willow TV will cover games in multiple countries, including South Africa, West Indies, India, Pakistan, and Australia. The new deal lets subscribers view all of these events in their homes.
The new deal is set to boost the relationship between Dish and Willow TV International. This is good news for cricket fans in the country, who have been awaiting the broadcast of game events live in their satellite TV package. This lets them enjoy matches in full-HD quality.
Subscribers will no doubt see this update on the Dish Network channel list soon. It is not every day that a TV service in the country signs a deal with an international sports network like Willow TV. In addition, this is the first time that major ICC events will be provided gratis on the Willow Cricket channel. Most of these events were only available as pay-per view until now.
Chris Kuelling, Senior Vice President of international programming for Dish, said that this will mark the beginning of delivering “the best in Live cricket for years to come,” and added that they were sticking to their commitment of making Sling TV and Dish “your home for cricket.” Willow will be available across South Asian packages on both services.
