Cox Communications recently displayed a smart home in downtown Phoenix. This was to demonstrate how their fast and best internet service enables fifty-five connected devices to work without any interruption or other issues in the smart home. From smart flowerpots, smart toothbrush, and smart slow cookers to video game systems, virtual reality goggles, and 3D printers, the apartment at Mark-Taylor’s Capital Place complex was swarming with connected technology devices.
Experts say that by the end of 2020, the average number of connected devices in a home will be fifty-five. This is the why the gigabyte speed internet and Panoramic WiFi service from Cox, that is debuting in July, has become more important. “Consumption of bandwidth is doubling every two years,” said Susan Anable, who is the vice president of public affairs for Cox southwest region.
Besides the non-Cox branded products, Cox displayed many of their home and business services as well. For one, Cox Homelife offers professional monitoring, smart control system, and live HD video for homes. “This system makes any home a smart home,” said Leslie Benner, who is the product-marketing manager for Cox Homelife. “You can set rules to have devices work together, like your doors locking everyday at 9 p.m. and your lights turning on when you enter the home. I even have a chime on my back door so I know when it’s open for safety reasons with my pool and my daughter. This makes it super simple to control everything from an app.”
Cox Contour provides a voice remote that makes use of their best internet service to find television content, answer questions, or buy movies. These features are provided together with a six tuner DVR that offer 2 TB of storage space. “Contour is an aggregator of content you can look at while watching TV,” Bruce Berkinshaw, director of product operations said. “You can ask questions through the remote to help with school work or find the latest sports stats, or you can buy and rent movies, all through your TV.”
The Panoramic Wi-Fi service from Cox is a new service that is aimed to optimize the internet experience in homes by offering wall-to wall coverage at very fast speeds. “You can get the same internet experience throughout your entire home through our modems and wireless extenders,” said Matt Severson, product-marketing manager for the internet and phone. “It’s a different approach to optimizing your internet, while also using the My Wi-Fi app to see your connected devices and data usage, control your kid’s Wi-Fi and reset your modem.”
