The latest news about Sling TV was the launch of Sling App for Apple TV. But after the launch of the app, Dish Network has now announced the addition of 12 new Viacom channels to the Sling TV services.
It seems like Dish Network services has been focusing on their internet television service, as their core pay TV services are suffering. Cord cutting has affected the pay TV services of Dish Network badly, and this has made them to concentrate more on the pay TV services. As per the recent reports, the newly added channels in the Sling TV service include, Nick Jr, NickToons, BET, Comedy Central, TeenNick, MTV, CMT, TV Land, VH1, MTV2, Spike, and Logo.
All the newly added channels would be available as a-la-carte service, and the charges would be $5 for a month. It is actually a great deal and the subscribers have the option to choose and pay for the channels that they need.
In the last few years, the US pay TV industry has shifted gradually from the satellite and cable TV providers to the Over-the-Top providers. In addition, the increasing popularity of the video streaming service providers is also posing danger to the pay TV business.
Existing pay TV service providers need to enter the OTT arena to get more business. Dish network has entered the OTT video delivery business with the introduction of Sling TV, but the service is criticized as it limits streaming to only one stream at a time for a household.
Dish Network has launched Sling TV apps for Apple TV and Android TV and this proves that they are now in the internet TV service game. However, many of the telecom giants are now attracted to the video streaming service and this has increased the competition. Giants in the industry, such as Verizon, have introduced zero-rated plans for streaming services, which has made their offers much cheaper than the OTT. However, with the rich and varied content, we can hope that Sling TV will grow further.
