What Is Trending On Dish Network

Trending Movies & Shows

Dominant satellite providers are waging on acquiring airwaves in the recently concluded federal communications commission auction. Dish network has made its intentions clear spending a whopping $6.2 billion and filing for 5G permits with the FCC in March. Let us discuss what has prompted this move, and what is in store for the other dominant players.

Dish Network Teeing Off with Dominant Cable Providers

With this move, one would suppose homegrown consumers aspirations of acquiring cable service with better signal are on the grasp. What is in store for them and the industry at large is a tee off between T-Mobile, Verizon, and Comcast. Industry trade analysts say acquisitions and mergers are on the cards involving the three best internet providers.

Internet Providers and Mergers Trend

Word has it, that Dish network has been on the shortlist of dominant players being a kingpin of big moves. Their repute of satellite cable in itself poses a big threat to the low-frequency spectrum clocked at 600MHz speed. This merger trend also determines the loud rumors in the Internet of Things/ cyberspace as the following ones for instance.

Verizon Interested in Low-Band Entertainment

Verizon Inc has made it clear that its top brass is interested in a proposed 5G network, which provides high frequency cable. This is unsurprising for two of Verizon’s competitors, DirecTV Now and Comcast. Would Verizon go for the big move by acquiring Dish Network Sling TV streaming service?

Comcast Has Its Eyes Set On Dish Network Spectrums

Dominant Satellite Providers

There are factions in the industry who think that Verizon and Comcast may merge with each other to provide better satellite TV combined with wireless services. However, it all depends on how well the M&A responds on time alongside some of the standard cable and internet providers.

Dish Network may sell some of their best internet services to municipalities or to health care as a remote monitoring system in a bid to avoid M&A wars. The amount $6.2 Billion is worth a lot, more than rumor could bring in and certainly up there with the standard cable providers. Further, in its filing with the FCC, the spokesperson of Dish Network had said: “Exploring joint build partnerships that could reduce overall network deployment costs for Dish.”

Smart Home Concept

Cox Communications recently displayed a smart home in downtown Phoenix. This was to demonstrate how their fast and best internet service enables fifty-five connected devices to work without any interruption or other issues in the smart home. From smart flowerpots, smart toothbrush, and smart slow cookers to video game systems, virtual reality goggles, and 3D printers, the apartment at Mark-Taylor’s Capital Place complex was swarming with connected technology devices.

Experts say that by the end of 2020, the average number of connected devices in a home will be fifty-five. This is the why the gigabyte speed internet and Panoramic WiFi service from Cox, that is debuting in July, has become more important. “Consumption of bandwidth is doubling every two years,” said Susan Anable, who is the vice president of public affairs for Cox southwest region.

Besides the non-Cox branded products, Cox displayed many of their home and business services as well. For one, Cox Homelife offers professional monitoring, smart control system, and live HD video for homes. “This system makes any home a smart home,” said Leslie Benner, who is the product-marketing manager for Cox Homelife. “You can set rules to have devices work together, like your doors locking everyday at 9 p.m. and your lights turning on when you enter the home. I even have a chime on my back door so I know when it’s open for safety reasons with my pool and my daughter. This makes it super simple to control everything from an app.”

Local stations were made available in these markets and other markets recently to join the 17 Fox owned and operated stations that were already available on the DirecTV Now service.

Local television has been an important provider for the various skinny bundle packages that were released recently as competitor to the traditional multichannel video programming distributors (MVPD). Google had limited the launch of their YouTube TV initiative to the cities like Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Philadelphia, where they have secured the rights to air the channels like local ABC, Fox, CBS, and NBC. Sling TV service from Dish Network released a new device called AirTV which will help the users to add local stations to their channel guide, making use of an over the air antenna.

“We’re excited about the power of DirecTV Now to expand the premium TV marketplace and provide greater access to our programming nationwide,” said Mike Biard, who is the president of distribution for Fox Networks Group. “Today’s addition of 14 Fox-affiliated stations, and the others that will be launching soon, together with our portfolio of national and regional cable networks, will allow DirecTV Now to deliver the full experience of our industry-leading news, entertainment and sports brands, while affording consumers the convenience and flexibility to watch whenever and wherever they want.”

Commenting on that, the chief content officer for AT&T, Dan York said, “Significantly more customers now have access to local programing on DirecTV Now through Fox affiliates in cities across America. We are continuing to expand our lineup of local, regional and national programming on DirecTV Now so our customers have access to an impressive lineup at a great value.”

Starz On DirecTV Now

There is good news for subscribers of AT&T’s new streaming service, DirecTV Now, which was launched to attract cord cutters and people looking for cheap cable services. AT&T has added Starz services to the DirecTV Now channel list and it is available for an additional charge of 8 dollars per month.

This is a higher price than that of HBO though. The forty dollars per month DirecTV Now online streaming service of AT&T was launched in December 2016, with HBO as an add-on channel for 5 dollars a month. The five-dollar pricing for the channel is much less than the fifteen dollars a month that the traditional pay TV users pay for the channel.

It is reported that the new eight-dollar Starz service on DirecTV Now includes Starz Encore SVOD content, Starz SOD content, and linear streams of Starz Kids & Family, Starz Encore, and Starz channels. Note that Starz Encore is already available on the 70 dollars per month package of DirecTV Now.

“With today’s launch on DirecTV Now, Starz is continuing to extend the reach of its flagship Starz products in the marketplace. The DirecTV Now offering is a terrific service for our collection of Starz Originals and quality feature film programming, which has proven to be very successful for the unmatched quality at an affordable price point,” said Jeffrey Hirsch, COO at Starz.

“With DirecTV Now, AT&T is opening up barriers to entry that prevented a wide swath of audience from accessing our groundbreaking slate of originals and we are thrilled to work with them,” he added.

Starz services on DirecTV Now will feature more than 2,500 TV episodes and movies, which includes the original series Power and Outlander. “With the addition of Starz, we’re continuing to broaden the appeal of DirecTV Now, creating an unmatched entertainment experience,” said Dan York, who is the chief content officer for AT&T.

Starz is the second most widely subscribed flagship premium pay TV network in the US. Starz originals to look out for in 2017 include Power, Outlander, American Gods, together with seasons of The Missing, Survivor’s Remorse, Black Sails, The White Princess, and Ash vs Evil Dead.

DirecTV Now offers their customers access to hundred plus channels including live sports, premium channels, on demand content, popular shows, and movies. With DirecTV Now, you can stream content on a variety of supported devices, without the need to have any set top boxes, annual contracts, cheap cable connections, satellite dishes, or credit checks.
