Dish Network’s New Ad Campaign May Help Them To Win Back Customers

Dish Network Packages

Dish Network Offers

One of the leading cable service providers, Dish Network suffered a huge subscriber loss over the last few months. Reports indicate that the cable provider is determined to prevent this alarming customer loss and the newly launched ad campaign might actually help them to do so.

The new ad campaign puts stress on the fact that the cable provider is always listening to their customers and their satisfaction is of prime importance to the telecom company. The new campaign, which is titled as “Tuned In To You” relies entirely on a “Spokeslistener.”

The officials from Dish Network noted that Spokelistener poses a serious challenge to the typical traditional spokesman who generally speak to customers rather than listening to them. Moreover, Spokeslistener effectively illustrates the common issues and frustrations experienced by the cable customers through a series of radio, digital, and TV ads. Spokelistener also illustrates the solutions that Dish Network can offer to solve these issues.

Dish Network president and chief operating officer, Erik Carlson recently said, “Customers just want to be heard in an industry that has forsaken its ability to listen. ‘Tuned In To You’ is more than a marketing slogan. It’s a company-wide rallying cry and a long-term business philosophy. DISH has a history of putting our customers first and taking bold steps to make TV better. We are at our best when we listen to and fight for what our customers want.”

However, Dish is not just running ad campaigns to win back their subscribers. The cable provider has also launched a new training program in their October dubbed Base Camp. Some of Dish Network’s frontline employees who work with their customers will be a part of this training program.

Carlson added, “The notion that management should roll back its sleeves and work with its customer base is almost unheard of in corporate America. But we can’t possibly fulfill on our ‘Tuned In To You’ promise without a working knowledge of our customers and the interactions they have with our brand.”

Reports from several reliable sources point out that Dish Network is trying to graduate 700 of their employees through the Base Camp by the end of the year 2017 and some of the trainees are senior leaders of the telecom company. Dish Network is hopeful that these new strategies will help them to win back customers.

Dish Network Found Guilty In A $20.5 Million Case

Lawsuit Against Dish

A recent ruling from the Jury at the Middle District of North Carolina Court in Greensboro held the telecom company, Dish Network responsible for making telemarketing calls to over 51,000 people, whose telephone numbers were listed under the National Do Not Call Registry. The jury also asked Dish Network to pay a penalty of $20.5 million for the same.

The chief plaintiff of the class-action lawsuit was the retired director of the Museum of Life and Science in Durham, Thomas Krakauer. This lawsuit actually originated from a complaint, which was made in the year 2014. Reports indicate that a Dish dealer, who is currently inoperative, made the telemarketing calls to customers. However, the Jury asked the telecom provider to pay a $400 per violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).

The Jury consisted of ten members and the trial lasted for about 5 days. At the end of the trial, the Jury had the choice to allocate a penalty from $0 to $500. An attorney with Bailey & Glasser, John Barrett highly praised the efforts and commitment of Krakauer for sticking with the lawsuit for the last two and a half years.

In a recent statement, Krakauer said that, “This case has always been about enforcing the Do Not Call law and protecting people from nuisance telemarketing calls. I am thrilled with the jury’s verdict, and thrilled we were able to win this enforcement action.”

Dish Network

National Do Not Call Registry

Reports claim that approximately 18,000 class members were registered to the lawsuit against the leading telecom company. Around 51,000 phone calls out of the total 1.6 million phone calls strictly violated the TCPA. The telemarketers are advised to not call the residential numbers, which are under the Do Not Call list for two or more than two times a year.

However, Dish Network showed their disappointment with the recent verdict and they stated that they would consider further legal action to revoke the ruling. The attorneys, who represented Dish Network in the Court, were John Ewald, Elyse Echtmann, and Peter Bicks.

“Dish thanks the jurors for their service, but respectfully disagrees with today’s verdict and is evaluating its legal options. Regardless, Dish has long taken its compliance with telemarketing laws seriously, has and will continue to maintain rigorous telemarketing compliance policies and procedures, and has topped multiple independent customer service surveys along the way,” a Dish spokesperson said.

Sling CEO Severely Criticizes DirecTV Now For Streaming Glitches

Sling TV Vs DirecTV Now

The CEO of Dish Network’s Sling TV, Roger Lynch severely criticized the latest online streaming platform from AT&T, DirecTV Now, through his social media profile. DirecTV Now had suffered a number of technical issues since its launch and some subscribers were deeply concerned about the bad reception. Some of the DirecTV customers even showed their frustrations and disappointment through social media platforms.

Interestingly, Sling CEO issued a series of tweets in which he highlighted the streaming errors and glitches of DirecTV Now. Lynch tweeted: “You should add @directvnow to that list of things to stay away from!” This tweet was actually a response to DirecTV Now’s tweet, where the provider asked their customers to stay away from the masks, woods, and cabins featured in the Friday the 13th movies.

Sling CEO even added, “Try @Sling instead!” One user responded to the tweet from Lynch and said, “@RogerLynch tried the 1 wk w/ @directvnow I have to stay w/ @Sling Better reception better service.” Lynch responded back to the user and thanked him for preferring Sling TV to DirecTV Now.

On the other hand, one of the top executives from AT&T stated that the launch of DirecTV Now has actually been a lot better than what they initially expected. AT&T Entertainment’s CTO and the executive in charge of the technical aspects of DirecTV Now, Enrique Rodriguez said, “Absolutely there were problems the problems were not as big as I expected. I’m so proud of the quality we delivered.”

DirecTV Now Issues

It is to be noted that DirecTV Now is not the only streaming service that faced numerous technical issues and other streaming problems during the launch. Even Sling TV suffered numerous high-profile streaming issues in the first few months after its launch.

Sling TV customers had earlier reported that they experienced serious streaming issues during the broadcast of a premiere episode from the popular TV show, The Walking Dead. Sling TV users even complained against this on social media platforms such as Reddit and Twitter, and Sling TV support staff individually apologized to over 100 users for the inconvenience.

No matter what, streaming services like Sling TV and DirecTV Now has opened numerous options to the viewers and they are the best choice for cord cutters. These services are a lot cheaper when compared to all other traditional cable TV services, and even these small glitches do not discount their freedom of use.

Sling TV Shares Details On Their Broadcast Network Reach

Dish Network Channel List

Sling TV Reach

The program rights access and regional availability of a number of major broadcast networks on online streaming services are still a mystery to many viewers. However, Dish Network’s online streaming platform, Sling TV recently responded to a query that asked where the Big Four networks Sling TV carries could be seen.

In a statement, officials from Sling TV confirmed that NBC and FOX Networks will be available only to the subscribers, who are currently under the newer Sling Blue platform. They also added that the live feeds of almost all local stations are limited to the markets, where the networks have operated and owned stations. This means that Sling TV viewers in other markets would be able to access the contents offered by these networks only as On-Demand.

Sling TV subscribers who wish to access the contents of ABC Network would have to purchase the “Broadcast Extra” package. This package is available at just $5 per month and it includes both UniMas and Univision channels. The live feed of local ABC channels are limited to O&O markets though.

Furthermore, the On-Demand availability of these channels is also not available in all the other markets. Some of the ABC markets include North Carolina, Raleigh-Durham, California, Fresno-Visalia, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York.

On the other hand, Sling TV subscribers currently under the Sling Blue package will be able to watch the live local feeds of FOX in Florida, Gainesville, Texas, Austin, North Carolina, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Detroit, Washington D.C, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Los Angeles, Tampa, and Orlando. However, the live viewing of NBC on Sling Blue will be confined to Hartford/New Haven, Miami/Fort Lauderdale, San Diego, D.C, Washington, Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York.

Many other streaming service providers, including AT&T, have not yet shared any information about the reach of their broadcast network agreements. However, reports from several sources indicate that AT&T is planning to give some insight into these details in a few weeks. Sling TV has reportedly noted that their service should not be considered as a replacement for traditional pay TV, but their advertisements deliver a different message.

Details Of Sling TV’s AirTV Set Top Box

Dish Network

AirTV Set Top Box

It seems that someone unwrapped their CES gifts before Christmas. Sling TV from Dish Network was prepared to make a splash in CES with their latest AirTV set top box. This set top box combines Sling content and free over-the-air (OTA) channels in a single program guide, but then they accidentally shared the information before time. The information was uncovered on 20 December and there were wide reporting about the AirTV set top box.

The release date was fixed on Jan. 3, but the product did not get the CES buzz Sling was expecting. With Mohu and Tablo releasing devices with similar capabilities, this has become the year of set top boxes that are capable of merging OTT and OTA.

With its soft rubbery feel and white and blue styling, the AirTV set top box is aimed at households that use Sling TV, OTA channels, and Netflix. AirTV STB is available for 99 dollars a month, but that will provide access to only streaming content. If you need to get OTA channels, you will need to buy the box together with an antenna adapter, which is sold separately in a bundle for 129 dollars and then pair the adapter with a digital antenna that can be bought separately.

Cheapest Cable

Sling TV Content

It is reported that Sling would offer installation of the antenna for a small price in some of their service areas. The AirTV set top box is built on Android and is capable of running Android apps.

The remote for AirTV is designed by Universal Electronics and they have showed the remote at their CES booth. This remote has a big blue button to call up Sling TV and features dedicated buttons for Google and Netflix. The remote aims at offering simplicity and it does not have any Mode or Input button. If your kids leave the television switched to a game, you just need to press on the Sling button on the remote to set the TV to the HDMI port for streaming content.

The on-screen guide will show Sling TV channels, over the air channels, and show movies from Netflix, queued in a single location. This will help users save the bother of switching between screens. The AirTV set top box is also capable of streaming 4K video, and it could be a real winner for cord cutters who are tired of tuning over the air channels.

CW And CBS Networks Went Dark On Dish Network

Dish Network

CW And CBS Networks

One of the leading satellite/cable providers in the country, Dish Network recently announced that they have dropped MyNetworkTV, CW, and CBS programming from the Dish Network channel list in Oklahoma. In addition to that, reports from several sources indicate that Dish Network subscribers in Tulsa will not be able to access KOTV Channel 6 and Tulsa CW (KQCW). Similarly, Dish subscribers in Oklahoma City will lose access to both KWTV Channel 9 and MyNetworkTV (KSBI).

The blackout of these channels is because Dish Network and Griffin Communications failed to sign a new contract after the recent expiry of their previous contract. Griffin Communications is the parent company of MYNetworkTV, Tulsa CW, News On 6, KSBI, and News 9. However, reports indicate that the negotiations between both the parties are still going on and the dispute might end in a few weeks’ time.

In a recent statement, the president of Griffin Communications, David Griffin said, “As an Oklahoma-based, family-owned company, we simply want to be fairly compensated for the product we provide Dish customers. The amount we are asking is similar to what other cable and satellite systems are currently paying Griffin Communications. We are so sorry that our viewers are caught in the middle and we appreciate their support. We want nothing more than to continue to provide quality, local and CBS programming for viewers.”

Dish Network Channel List

Dish Network Channel Guide

On the other hand, Dish Network said that, “Your channel owner is being greedy and demanding an unreasonable increase that’s much more than what they’ve ever received before and for the exact same channels. Unfortunately, disputes between pay-TV providers and channel owners are not uncommon. All pay-TV providers face disputes with channel owners.”

Commenting on that, Griffin said that the “funds received from cable and satellite systems are kept in Oklahoma to provide local news, weather and sports in our communities.” He added, “We appreciate you watching News 9 and News On 6, and we will update you on our progress as we continue to negotiate in good faith with Dish to avoid further service disruption.”

The blackout of CW Network means that Dish Network subscribers will not be able to access and watch popular TV shows such as The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, and many more, which are scheduled to hit the screens this month after the mid-season break. However, reports indicate that the blackout of CW Network might end before these TV shows start airing.

Sling CEO Believes Online Streaming Services Are The Future Of TV

Dish Network

The Future Of TV

Dish Network introduced their online streaming service, Sling TV, exactly two years ago. The launch of this streaming platform has brought numerous benefits to Dish Network and the service quickly become much popular among cord cutters and other traditional TV viewers.

Many analysts firmly believe that online streaming services like Sling TV and DirecTV Now represent the future of TV. In a recent conference, Sling CEO Roger Lynch said, “The future of TV, I believe, is going to be streamed.”

He discussed about the evolution of telephones and about the launch of applications such as Skype. “I think the same path will be followed by video and traditional TV, moving from analogue to digital and then software applications like Sling,” Lynch added.

This might be a long-term vision, but we do have to accept the fact that the Sling CEO has an interesting view on the role of “Pay Lite” in the current market. He also added that the analysts and viewers should compare Sling TV to music services such as Spotify, rather than comparing it with Dish Network’s or Comcast’s pay TV offerings.

Dish Network Channels

Online Streaming Services

“When consumers engage with Spotify for the first time they download a mobile app and start a free trial,” Lynch said. “There are no contracts and there is no installation. That is how most people start a relationship with Sling TV.” Sling TV is currently one of the cheapest streaming services available to the users and the basic package of Sling TV is available to customers at just $20 a month, which offers more than 30 popular channels.

The President of EchoStar Corporation and CTO at Dish Network, Vivek Khemka said, “Sling TV is differentiated around the business model – no contract, no commitment, no installation; you sign-up and watch TV in a few minutes. We have aggressively delivered smaller packagers rather than a big bundle. You do not have all the programming that DISH offers and that is by design.”

He added, “Sling TV is still evolving and we do not intend to make it in any way inferior to the full Pay TV experience. We have a philosophy where we want to embrace change and if people want streaming TV, then so be it. There is no reason to fight that or prevent it from happening by making Sling an inferior service.”

Dish Network Subscribers Lose Access To KFQX Contents

Dish Network

Dish Network Subscribers

Dish Network subscribers will no longer be able to access KFQX contents and the Fox programming it offers. This is because the leading cable/satellite provider has failed to reach a settlement with the television station. In addition to that, Dish Network customers will not be able to access both College football and NFL games through these networks.

The networks offered by this station have already been blacked out from the channel lineup of Dish Network, since December 22 to be exact. The officials from KFQX claim that the provider has refused to pay a fair value for the exceptional contents they are offering, which includes popular TV series such as Empire, Lethal Weapon, and Gotham.

Satellite and cable companies must sign an agreement with the local television stations, if they want to bring the stations to customers through the local stations distribution system – this is usually known as retransmission consent. If both the parties fail to reach an agreement, then the satellite or cable company cannot include those particular stations in their distribution system.

Millions of dollars are being invested by each local station in order to bring entertaining and high quality programs to the viewers including popular TV shows, local news update, exclusive coverage of popular sports events, and a lot more. So, these local stations expect a fair payment from the providers, if they want to use their distribution system. In the current scenario, the local station is not happy with the payment offered by Dish Network.

Best Cable Deals

Channel Blackouts

Interestingly, many customers raised questions on why Dish Network should pay the local stations when they are actually being offered as free over the air. Even Dish Network responded to this issue by claiming that KFQX is actually responsible for the “blacking out” of its signal from the Dish Network channel list.

However, it is said that Dish Network is using the local station as a tool to urge the customers to subscribe to their offerings. The officials from KFQX claim that because Dish Network is using their station in order to lure in customers and make money, they must pay a fair economic value to the programs offered by the local network.

No matter what, recent reports indicate that Dish Network is trying to reach a settlement with the local station. However, we don’t know when will this dispute end or when will Dish subscribers be able access the programming offered by KFQX.
